The two of us set to work cutting and sewing and pressing. It was the perfect quilt to work on with a partner. I did the cutting and pressing, and she did all the sewing. Within a couple of evenings we had the blocks all assembled. She then helped me arrange the blocks.
This week I was able to sew the blocks together, add the borders, quilt, and bind it.
Do you have a daughter/son, granddaughter/son, niece/nephew, or neighbor girl/boy that would like to learn to quilt? "Yellow Brick Road" is the perfect quilt pattern to do with a beginning quilter. It doesn't require any matching of seams while making the blocks, and they are able to see progress quickly. A smaller child who may not be able to use the sewing machine would enjoy helping you arrange the blocks.
I have put together kits for this quilt in a baby size, lap size, and full size. If the "Sweet Things" fabric collection isn't your favorite but you have your eye on a different fabric collection I carry, contact me, and I will create a custom kit just for you.

How exciting that your daughter asked to make a quilt with you! She must be very proud of it. I have a three year old granddaughter who likes to sit on my lap as I sew. She lifts the presser foot up and down for me, and would like to guide the fabric too, but I worry about those little fingers, so I tell her that will have to wait until she is a little bigger. So I hope to make a quilter out of her in the next few years! Thanks so much for the generous chance to win! I follow you on Bloglovin.
ReplyDeleteI'm teaching my SIL at the moment - we're both loving it!!

ReplyDeleteI have taught many family members to quilt over the years and it is so much fun seeing the joy they get when they discover they can do it! Several years ago I invited two of my nieces to my home for a week of quilt camp. They were 12 and 13 and lived 300 miles away. I let them pick fabrics from my stash, and we went shopping for more. They each made a quilt, a pillow, a zippered pouch and pincushion and left me with memories I will always cherish. More recently I taught my DIL and she is hooked.

ReplyDeleteIt's exciting to have our kids ask to learn to do something we love! Your daughter did a lovely job. I supervised my pre-teen daughter's efforts to make a Jelly Roll 1600 quilt (came out great!) and at his request stayed out of the way while my teen son made a small paper pieced wall hanging.

ReplyDeleteBoy have you asked the wrong question for a quick answer! I have been teaching my 7 yo grand daughter to quilt/sew. She LOVES it! She's done a lap quilt for herself, another one for her dolls, a mug rug for each of her parents for christmas gifts, and a pillowcase for herself! She just loves it and I love working with her. She is picking it up so quickly and easily and is so ambitious! Sadly, I don't get to see her that often, couple times a year so I plan ahead to get the "busy" work done so she can sew sew sew! You can read about her pillowcase creation on my blog www.fabricandmemories.blogspot.com. You daughter might like that...all kinds of teen fabric prints out there for a fun sleep over!!!
ReplyDeleteYour daughter's quilt turned out wonderful - love that fabric! I've been working with my 10 y/o granddaughter the last year or so. She loves picking out the fabrics, need to get her more involved in the sewing process.

ReplyDeleteI am a new quilter, but when grand daughter comes over (she's 4) I let her help out on the sewing machine. She loves just touching the fabric and folding it, it's so funny! I told her when she is bigger I will get her a sewing machine, but I think she wants the fabric first! Lol. Thanks
