Moda's Piece and Comfort Challenge

With the beginning of a new year, many quilters have made a goal to make a charity quilt or two in 2015.  One of the groups we may remember with our charity quilts is our country's military families.

Moda has organized a challenge for 2015 calling "Piece and Comfort" to recognize and honor the sacrifices that are made by our country's military families. Moda would like quilters to create a quilt to honor a military family in their circle of friends, community, or nation.

CHALLENGE RULES:  The challenge runs through March 31, 2015.  Ninety percent of the quilt must be made with Moda fabrics. Fifty percent of the Moda fabrics must come from one or both of the Moda fabric lines Red, White & Free by Sandy Gervais or Because of the Brave by Moda.  Quilts must be 54 inches x 65 inches or larger.  Quilt remains the property of the maker unless they choose to donate the quilt to a military family.  Entry forms are available here.  Please read the complete challenge rules available here.

Stitchin' It Up Quilt Shop is honored to be participating in this challenge.  You can send a photo of your completed quilt to us at merrilee@stitchinitupquiltshop.com with your name, the quilter's name, your city, size of the quilt, and contact information by March 31, 2015.  We will post all of the quilt entries we receive on this blog on April 6, 2015, and will allow our blog followers to vote for their favorite until April 18. The quilt with the most votes will win a Viewer's Choice Award and prize from Moda and will then be entered into Moda's Piece and Comfort online quilt show with the national winner announced May 8, 2015.  Prize awards for the Moda online show will be given.

Why not start planning your quilt for this challenge now!

Last BOM block complete!

I have completed the final row in the winter-themed Block of the Month hosted by Cindy at Quilt Doodle Doodles.  I have to say, this row of lights might be my favorite month of them all.

Here are my blocks from all ten months.  My goal will be to try to get this together by Christmas time.  Cindy is considering having a blog hop in January for everyone to show their finished quilts.

Block of the Month Catch Up Time

I got behind a month in the Block of the Month going on at Quilt Doodle Doodles, but now I am caught up.  I have finished the July block called "Toasty Mugs" and the August block called "Sweet Tooth."  Only two months left!

Not much sewing is going on at my house this summer, but I am looking forward to getting back into a routine when the school year starts again.

June Block of the Month - Skates

It is time to show my June Block of the Month for the winter-themed quilt designed by Cindy at Quilt Doodle Designs.  This month her block is called "Northern Hockey Skates."  Even though I am from Minnesota, I am not a real big hockey fan, so I "softened" my hockey skates and changed them to white.

It is fun sewing winter-themed quilt blocks in the middle of summer.  Looking forward to the July block.

Touchdown Quilt

I sent my newest quilt kit available in my online quilt shop to my friend Kristen at Meadowbrook last month.  She has a teenage son who is a BIG sports fan, and I knew he would love this quilt.  She sewed this quilt up in just a few days.  The quilt uses the pattern "Touchdown" by Cluck Cluck Sew.  Kristen reports "the instructions were very clear, and making the football strings was easy and fun."  Kristen quilted it on her home sewing machine.
